Thane, Jun 24 (PTI) Parts of protection walls collapsed at two different locations in Maharashtra's Thane city on Tuesday following overnight heavy rains, officials said.

Nobody was injured in the incidents, they said.

Chief of the Thane civic body's Regional Disaster Management Cell, Yasin Tadvi, said the first incident was reported around 8.40 am near Gomi Avenue Society, opposite the Shri Swami Samarth Math on Pokhran Road No 1 in Thane west, in which a forest protection wall approximately 15 feet long and 6 feet high collapsed on the adjoining road.

The work of removing the debris was underway, he said.

The second incident took place around 12.10 pm in front of the TMP water tank in Gandhinagar area on Pokhran Road No. 2 in Thane west.

A protection wall, approximately 30 feet long and 12 feet high, collapsed into an adjoining drain, which also led to the collapse of two trees, Tadvi said.

After being alerted, the Executive Engineer and Junior Engineer of the Vartaknagar Ward Committee of the Public Works Department (PWD) and the disaster management cell personnel rushed to the spot, he said.

The area was immediately barricaded and restoration work is currently on, he added. PTI COR NP
