Puducherry, June 30 (PTI) Union Minister Jitendra Singh on Monday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s earliest governance mantra of “minimum government, maximum governance” had laid the foundation for wide-ranging reforms.

Inaugurating a one-day southern regional conference of the Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA), jointly organised by the IIPA’s Puducherry Regional Branch and Pondicherry University, Singh said the Digital India initiative had enhanced citizens’ dignity and self-confidence while earning global recognition.

Union Minister of State for Science and Technology and Earth Sciences noted that the reforms initiated under the Prime Minister’s leadership extended beyond government schemes, carrying a significant socio-economic impact.

Digital India, he said, has promoted objectivity, transparency, and optimal use of technology.

"Ease of living, ease of doing business, ease of agriculture, and ease of education have ushered in a new work culture, enhancing self-confidence and self-esteem among Indians," Singh said, adding these reforms have also drawn global appreciation.

He highlighted that schemes like the Prime Minister Vishwakarma Yojana have preserved traditional livelihoods, while technology-driven initiatives such as Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), financial inclusion through accessible banking, Aadhaar-based services, and other digital programmes have "transformed public mindsets".

Pondicherry University Vice-Chancellor P Prakash Babu, IIPA Director General Surendra Nath Tripathi, Puducherry Chief Secretary Sharat Chauhan, and other dignitaries were present.

On the occasion, Singh inaugurated a governance cell at Pondicherry University and released the book 'Digital Governance in India: Transforming Public Service Delivery', authored by T Gopinath of the Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development, Chandigarh. PTI COR SSK
