Chandigarh, Jun 28 (PTI) Police have formed multiple teams and were scanning CCTV footage to identify and nab the assailants of the mother of jailed gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria and another person accompanying her, officials said on Saturday.
Bhagwanpuria's mother Harjit Kaur (52) and the other person, Karanvir Singh, were grievously injured after bike-borne assailants fired upon their car on the Qadian Road in Punjab's Batala last Thursday night.
While Karanvir was declared dead at the Batala Civil Hospital, Harjit Kaur was referred to a hospital in Amritsar, but she succumbed to the bullet injuries.
A police officer Saturday said efforts were on by multiple police teams to nab the assailants and added that CCTV footage from nearby areas were being scanned.
Harjit Kaur, who hails from Bhagwanpur, had been living in Batala in a rented house for the past two to three years.
In an unverified social media post, Bhagwanupuria's rival gang claimed responsibility for the attack, indicating that Karanvir was the target.
When asked about the claim, police parried the question by saying investigations were underway.
In March, jailed gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria was detained by the Narcotics Control Bureau under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act and shifted from central jail in Bathinda to Assam's Silchar jail.
Jaggu Bhagwanpuria was already in the custody of Punjab police in the 2022 singer Sidhu Moosewala murder case. PTI CHS NSD NSD
