New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday accused the Election Commission of India (ECI) of vote theft during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar, citing a viral video allegedly showing Booth Level Officers (BLOs) filling voter forms and signing on behalf of voters.

The allegations surfaced after YouTuber Ajit Anjum posted a video on social media reportedly capturing BLOs violating electoral norms by completing and signing voter forms themselves.

Gandhi, sharing the video on X, questioned the ECI’s impartiality, stating that the commission had been “caught red-handed stealing votes under the name ‘SIR’.”

The ECI has denied the charges, asserting that the SIR exercise is lawful and in line with constitutional provisions. The SIR is intended to update voter lists ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections, scheduled for October or November 2025.

Meanwhile, Ajit Anjum has been booked by police for allegedly interfering with the electoral roll revision and provoking communal discord. Anjum has denied any wrongdoing, claiming his reporting was aimed at highlighting procedural lapses.

The Supreme Court had earlier advised the ECI to accept Aadhaar cards, voter ID cards, and ration cards as valid documents for the SIR exercise, following concerns over the process.
