Jaipur, Jan 23 (PTI) A man working as a contractual employee in the state government threw his five-month-old daughter in the Indira Gandhi Canal to avoid hurdles in securing a permanent job because of three children, police said Monday.
The partner in crime was his wife.
"The couple has been arrested today for murdering their daughter. The man along with his wife took the step to secure his contractual government job," Bikaner SP Yogesh Yadav said. The incident occurred in the Bikaner district on Sunday evening when the couple threw the girl into the canal in the Chhatargarh police station area.
Meghwal (36) is presently posted as school assistant in Chandasar panchayat and given an affidavit that he has two children and was expecting that he would not be appointed permanently in the job due to the third child, SHO Jai Kumar said.
However, with the birth of the third child, the man became apprehensive about a permanent job as the state government's two-child policy entails compulsory retirement of the employee on the birth of the third child.
Bikaner Superintendent of Police Yogesh Yadav said, "The couple was arrested on Monday for the murder of their daughter. The accused along with his wife took this step to get a permanent government job." A case has been registered against Jhawarlal Meghwal and his wife Geeta Devi (33) under sections 302 and 120B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Chhatargarh police station, he added. PTI SDA/AG RDT
