Republic Day celebrations culminate with Beating Retreat ceremony in Jammu

Jammu, Jan 29 (PTI) The customary Beating the Retreat ceremony marked the culmination of the four-day Republic Day celebrations in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday.


The ceremony at Maulana Azad Stadium here was presided over by Lt Governor Manoj Sinha. Marching bands of the armed forces played patriotic tunes on the brass bands and pipe drum bands on the slow and quick strathspey, a spokesperson said.

The brass band played tunes such as "Vijay Bharat", "Kadam Kadam Badhaye Ja", "Jai Ho", "Sare Jahan Se Achha" while the pipe band enthralled the audience with its rendition of "Deshon Ka Sartaj Bharat", "India Gate", "Lahure Ko Relimai" and "Kargil Hill", among others.

Sinha felicitated contingents of Jammu Kashmir Police, Indian Army and the Border Security Force during the event.

He also felicitated the parade commander, deputy parade commander, marching contingents of cadets from the National Cadet Corps (boys), contingents of schools (boys and girls), ex-servicemen, cultural performers, gymnasts and DareDevils of Jammu and Kashmir Police for their display during Thursday's Republic Day parade, the spokesperson added.

The Beating the Retreat ceremony concluded with the popular "Jahan Dal Dal Pe Sone ki Chidiya" and simultaneous display of fireworks, followed by the national anthem. PTI TAS SZM
