New Delhi, Jul 17 (PTI) A 47-year-old man was killed early Thursday on the carriageway heading from ISBT towards ITO after being hit by a speeding truck while checking a flat tyre on the Salimgarh Flyover in central Delhi, an official said.
The deceased, identified as Mahender Pal, is a resident of Haryana's Palwal.
The incident took place around 2 am when the deceased was travelling with his son and other family members to Palwal when their car developed a puncture near the Salimgarh Flyover. He stepped out to check the tyre when a speeding truck struck him and fled the scene", said Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Central, Nidhin Valsan, citing the statement of Pal's son, who witnessed the incident.
Pal was rushed to the AIIMS Trauma Centre, where he was declared dead by doctors.
An FIR has been registered under sections 281 (rash driving endangering human life) and 106 (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at I.P. Estate Police Station, the officer said.
Efforts are underway to identify the offending vehicle through CCTV footage and other technical means, police said.
