New Delhi: Amid the ongoing election campaigns for Karnataka Assembly polls, Neelesh Salgaonkar, a senior software engineer in Bengaluru, took to Twitter to narrate the horror he faced on a city road in broad daylight.
In a Twitter thread, Salgaonkar said that two motorists forced him to stop his car, hit the windows with their helmets and chased them on Saturday, April 29, when the man and his family were travelling on the Suranjan Das Road towards the Old Madras Road.
“At around 1.30 pm on Suranjan Das Road, a person on a motorcycle came close to the car and began gesticulating,” Salgaonkar said.
“We found it odd. We continued our journey and then suddenly he began asking us to stop and began moving to our right-hand side so he can cut inside. I accelerated the car suspecting something was wrong. The motorist followed us for two-three minutes before another man on a motorcycle, who we think was his accomplice, joined him and both of them passed right in front of my forcing us to stop. They were making threatening gestures. One man kept his hand on the bonnet signalling they did not want us to move,” he added.
Shocked, Salgaonkar instinctively put the car in reverse gear, took a left turn and moved away.
“My wife dialled 100 but couldn’t reach the police. The road was also relatively deserted at the time. The two began banging on the windows of the car using their helmets when I began moving away. They chased us in their motorcycles till BEML Circle,” he tweeted.
The two suspects fled when they saw the traffic policemen at the BEML Circle.
Salgaonkar, his wife and daughter reached the police station but their ordeal didn’t end there.
“We narrated to the police the events. They listened to us and then told us to wait until they found the area’s jurisdiction. A policeman accompanied us and we showed them the spot where the incident took place. We were then asked to go to the Baiyappanahalli Police Station as it falls under their limits,” alleged Salgaonkar.
He said that it was already around 3.30-4 pm, they were tired and shocked and went home. “We did not lodge a formal police complaint. The incident was very terrifying for us.”
