Social media users are divided over the issue of the glorification of Mughals in Medieval Indian history, in the NCERT school textbook.

Srinivas, in his standup video, uses the premise of the construction of the Taj Mahal by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan for his wife Mumtaz Mahal. The comedian goes on to say that the monument should be a symbol of cheating, instead of a symbol of love.

The NCERT dropped certain portions from the course including lessons on Gujarat riots, Mughal courts, the Emergency, the Cold War, Naxalite movement in the name of “syllabus rationalisation.”

However, NCERT Chief Dinesh Saklani said, the syllabus was rationalised in June last year itself, and there has been no trimming of the curriculum this year. He said certain changes did not find mention in the rationalisation notification earlier due to an "oversight" and the issue should not be "blown out of proportion."
