Thane, Jul 6 (PTI) Thousands of people took part in celebrations on the occasion of ‘Ashadhi Ekadashi’ in Maharashtra’s Thane and Palghar districts on Sunday.

Long queues were seen at the temples of Lord Vitthal, as devotees waited for their turn to offer prayers to the deity.

During the day, ‘palkhi’ processions were taken out, with people dancing and singing ‘bhajans’ (devotional songs).

In Dombivili in Thane district, a few Muslims also participated in one such procession.

Maharashtra BJP chief Ravindra Chavan attended the ‘Ashadhi Ekadashi’ programme at platform number 1 of Dombivali railway station.

To a question about Saturday’s rally by Shiv Sena (UBT) president Uddhav Thackeray and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray, he said “Ashadhi Ekadashicha subhechha (greetings on Ashadhi Ekadashi)” and walked away.
