Tripura, Meghalaya and Nagaland go to polls in February 2023

New Delhi: The Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar Wednesday announced the schedule for polling in three north-eastern states of Tripura, Meghalaya and Nagaland.

Tripura will go to polls on February 16 and while the polling in Nagaland and Meghalaya will take place on February 27, 2023.

The counting of votes for all the three states will take place on March 2, 2023.

The term of legislative assemblies of Nagaland, Meghalaya and Tripura are coming to an end on March 12, 15 and 22, respectively.

All the three states have 60 assembly constituencies each.

Nagaland has 59 STs and just one general seat. Meghalaya has 55 STs and 5 general seat. Tripura has 30 general, 10 SCs and 20 STs seats.

Tripura Elections 2023

Tripura is ruled by BJP with Manik Saha as the chief minister of the state. 

BJP had won 33 seats in the 2018 elections.

The opposition has 16 seats where CPI(M) has 15 seats and Congress has 1 seat.

The CPI(M) and Congress announced last week that they will fight the Tripura assembly elections together, in a major shake-up in the political arena of the northeastern state, where the two parties were considered arch-rivals.

The ruling BJP, meanwhile, said that an alliance between the CPI(M) and the Congress would augur well for it.

Nagaland Elections 2023

Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party led by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio is in the power in Nagaland. 

NDPP won 42 seats in 2018 elections followed by BJP with 12, Naga People's Front with 4 and Congress with 2 seats.

Meghalaya Elections 2023

The BJP-backed Meghalaya Democratic Alliance is in the power in the state where Conrad Sangma of National People's Party is the chief minister.

Conrad Sangma is the son of former Chief Minister, former Speaker of the Lok Sabha P. A. Sangma.
