Kolkata, Jul 11 (PTI) The BSF on Friday said two Bangladeshi smugglers were apprehended after 10 kg of ganja, 100 bottles of banned cough syrup and a machete were recovered from their possession in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district.
A BSF jawan was injured while confronting a gang of three-four Bangladeshi smugglers at the Tarali border outpost in the district around 1.50 am on Friday, the border guards said in a statement.
The jawans of the 143 battalion, patrolling at border outpost Tarali-1, had to fire more than one round in the air for self-defence as the smugglers were aggressive and continued to challenge the personnel.
Two of the gang members were nabbed and taken to the outpost for interrogation, while others escaped to their side, the BSF said.
"Despite repeated flag meetings with the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) to alert them about forced infiltrations and ongoing attacks by Bangladeshi criminals, no concrete action has been taken so far from their side," a BSF spokesperson said.
However, BSF personnel remain fully capable of securing the borders and safeguarding the country under all circumstances, he added. PTI SUS BDC
