Amravati, Jun 28 (PTI) A case has been registered against two persons for allegedly abetting the suicide of a 52-year-old farmer in Maharashtra's Amravati district, police said on Saturday.
The accused, who had lent money to the farmer, allegedly harassed and threatened him, an official said.
He said that based on a complaint by the victim's wife, the police registered a case against brothers Prakash and Atul Raghuvanshi under section 108 (abetment to suicide) and other relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Gajanan Dahat, a farmer from Bhatkuli in Amravati district, had taken a loan from Prakash Raghuvanshi, the official said.
As per the complaint, the brothers constantly harrassed Dahat, threatened him and abused him with casteist remarks, he said.
Fed up with the constant harassment, Dehat allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself on March 16, the official said, adding that a case was registered earlier this week, and one of the brothers was arrested. PTI COR CLS ARU
