New Delhi, Oct 16 (PTI) The Kartavya Path here would be lit with two lakh earthen lamps on October 18 and 19 as the BJP government in Delhi is all set to celebrate Diwali with fanfare, complete with a Ramayana-themed laser and drone show.

According to officials, the celebrations will be in line with the festivities at Ayodhya.

Over the past eight years, Deepotsav in Ayodhya has evolved into a globally recognised spectacle, setting world records for lighting lakhs of diyas along the banks of the Saryu River and at prominent temples in the holy city.

"The Kartavya Path will be lit up with two lakh diyas on October 18 and as many diyas the next day. A laser and drone show on the theme of Ramayana will be held to mark the occasion," said an official.

The event will see the presence of Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, her cabinet ministers and MLAs. BJP MPs are also expected to attend the event.

"This is the first major festival since the BJP came to power. The true spirit of the celebration lies in illuminating every corner. Kartavya Path will shine in all its glory, lit brightly by the glow of diyas," the official said.

The BJP returned to power in Delhi after more than 26 years to sweep away the Aam Aadmi Party with a two-thirds majority in February this year.

The Delhi government has also issued special orders to all departments to ensure the capital remains clean, safe, and radiant during the Diwali festival.

Detailed guidelines have been provided to all department heads and municipal authorities so that citizens can enjoy smooth traffic, a clean environment, and a festive atmosphere.

Delhi Chief Secretary Rajeev Verma instructed officials that all arrangements be made properly.

He has directed all local bodies, the Electricity Department, and the Public Works Department to ensure that streetlights are fully functional on roads, at markets, colonies, religious sites, and public areas so that the entire city is well-lit during the festival. PTI SLB SLB NSD NSD
