Hyderabad, Jul 5 (PTI) Two women from Patna drowned after a boat capsized in a lake in Vikarabad district of Telangana on Saturday, police said.
Their granddaughters were, however, rescued in the incident which occurred at about 4.30 pm when four families, which had travelled from Chennai to a resort in Vikarabad for camping, decided to go boating in Sarpanpally lake.
The women in their mid 50s, along with their granddaughters and the boat rider ventured into the lake.
Strong winds blew away the small boat, which turned turtle in the lake and all of them were thrown in the water, a senior police official said.
The family members tried to rescue them, but two women became unconscious and died while their granddaughters were rescued, the official said.
One of their relatives who tried to rescue them was admitted to a hospital and is said to be out of danger.
Meanwhile, a family member alleged that they did not get any "significant" help from the resort management after the incident. The boat rider swam across and saved himself after the vessel capsized.
He said two women jumped into the water and managed to save the children.
The women were pulled out of the water and taken to a hospital, but were declared brought dead.
There were no effective safety measures in place at the resort, he alleged.
Police said further investigations were on. PTI VVK GDK VVK ROH
