UP: Cop killed, 6 injured as police car crashes into bus

Unnao (UP), Jun 20 (PTI) A 35-year-old police officer died on the spot, and six others were injured when a speeding car police car collided with a private bus on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway, officials said on Friday.

The accident took place around 6 am near the kilometre marker 238 under the Bangarmau Police Station area.

Circle Officer Arvind Kumar said a team of the Amethi Police was returning with a recovered missing girl. The car's occupants included police personnel and members of the girl’s family.

The deceased officer was identified as Sub Inspector Manjeet Singh, a native of Lucknow.

Head Constable Pradeep Tiwari, who sustained head injuries, was referred to Hallet Hospital in Kanpur.

The other injured individuals were sent to the district hospital, Kumar said.

The collision severely damaged the front of the police car. Eyewitnesses noted that the vehicle was speeding, and it took rescuers over 30 minutes to extricate Singh's body, which was trapped between the wheel and the seat.

His body was sent for post-mortem, according to police.

The damaged bus, registered in Bihar, was emptied, and passengers were transported by alternate vehicles.

Additionally, the bus cleaner was taken into police custody and the owner was informed, the police added. PTI COR KIS MPL MPL
