Saharanpur (UP), Jul 11 (PTI) A court in Saharanpur on Friday sentenced a couple and their son to life imprisonment for the murder of a journalist and his brother in 2019.

The court also imposed a fine on all three convicts, a government prosecutor said.

Additional District Government Counsel Amit Tyagi told PTI that Additional District and Sessions Judge Alok Sharma sentenced Mahipal Saini, his wife Vimlesh, and their son Suraj to life imprisonment after finding them guilty in the double murder case. The court also imposed a collective fine of Rs 1.95 lakh on the trio.

According to Additional Superintendent of Police (Rural) Sagar Jain, the incident took place on August 18, 2019, in Saharanpur's Kotwali Nagar area.

The case was lodged based on a written complaint by Urmila, the mother of the deceased and wife of Parveen Kumar, a resident of Madho Nagar.

In her complaint, Urmila alleged that a minor dispute over dumping cow dung and garbage in a drain led to a violent confrontation. The accused, including Mahipal Saini, his son Suraj, wife Vimlesh, father Jagdish, and three juveniles from the same family, allegedly entered the house armed with illegal weapons. They abused and assaulted her sons Ashish and Ashutosh Dhiman before shooting them dead.

The police registered an FIR under charges of murder and related offences, completed the investigation, and filed a charge sheet in court. After a full trial, the three adult accused were found guilty and sentenced on Friday.

Tyagi added that the case involving the three juvenile accused is currently pending before the Juvenile Justice Board. PTI COR KIS ZMN
