UP governor visits Gorakhpur University for tree plantation event

Gorakhpur (UP), Jul 1 (PTI) Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel on Tuesday participated in a tree plantation campaign here at the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Gorakhpur University.

A statement issued on the governor's visit on the first day of this year's "Van Mahotsav" said the governor ceremonially planted saplings of rudraksha and red sandalwood as plants "symbolise harmony between environmental conservation and familial values" Addressing those gathered for the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign, Governor Patel said trees are not just protectors of the environment but also life. The campaign is the theme of this year's Van Mahotsav, an annual tree-planting festival celebrated across India from July 1 to July 7.

“The campaign ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ is an expression of our reverence for both nature and motherhood,” Patel said.

She also directed the university administration to plant saplings of the same species at one location to ensure their scientific and aesthetic development.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Poonam Tandon, who presided over the event, stressed the importance of continuity in such initiatives to maintain a clean and green university campus.

Tandon said a Miyawaki forest and a sandalwood grove were going to be established at the university campus. PTI ABN ABN SKY SKY
