Muzaffarnagar (UP), Dec 29 (PTI) Three members of a family were burnt to death, while another sustained severe injuries, after a fire broke out on the second floor of a house in Vasundhara residency locality here on Monday, police said.
Additional Superintendent of Police Satyanarayan Prajapat told reporters that fire brigade personnel reached the spot, under Nai Mandi police station, on getting information and started a rescue operation.
During the operation, three bodies were recovered.
The deceased were identified as Amit Gaur (50), his brother Nitin Gaur (45) and their mother Sushila (68), police said, adding that one person escaped the inferno with severe burn injuries and was shifted to hospital.
The deceased were residing on the second floor of the building where the fire broke out.
Prajapat said two domestic LPG gas cylinders exploded in the fire. An 'angithi' (portable stove) has also been recovered from the scene.
The bodies of the deceased have been sent for postmortem examination, he added.
The deceased Amit Gaur was posted as kanoongo in Saharanpur. He hailed from Shamli district and was living in a rented accommodation, police said. PTI COR NAV ARB ARB
