UP: Two arrested for rape, murder of 6-yr-old injured in encounter during escape bid

Chandauli (UP), Oct 31 (PTI) Two persons accused of rape and murder of a six-year-old girl were injured during an encounter here, after they allegedly tried to escape from police custody on Friday, officials said.

A head constable was also injured in the encounter, they added.

Station House Officer, Alinagar, Anil Kumar Pandey, said a six-year-old girl from a village under Alinagar police station area went missing on October 27. A day later, her semi-naked body was recovered from a haystack at a house in the village.

Ranjeet (22) and Lakhraj (21), residents of the same village, were accused of the incident and were arrested.

The officer said that while the two accused were being taken to a local court at around 2.40 pm on Friday, the police vehicle broke down. After this, the accused snatched a service revolver from the police and fled.

Near the ring road in Revasa village, when the accused were intercepted by the police, they opened fire at the team. Police retaliated in self-defence, shooting both of them in the leg.

Roshan Yadav, the head constable of Alinagar police station, also sustained a bullet injury, the police said, adding that all three injured are undergoing treatment at a primary health centre in Niyamatabad. PTI COR NAV ARB HIG HIG
