Kolkata, Jan 28 (PTI) The West Bengal government on Saturday decided to set up Textile Park on 200 acre land, a senior official said.

The land for the purpose is being identified in Paschim Medinipur district's Salboni and at Durgapur and Asansol in Paschim Bardhaman district, the official said.

"The identification process for the land to set up the proposed Textile Park is underway. Hopefully, we will soon zero in on it," a bureaucrat told PTI when contacted.

The decision is seen as an outcome of a workshop on 'Expanding opportunities in the Textiles sector of West Bengal' organised by the state's MSME & Textiles department.

Further aiming to support the weavers and exporters in the state, the MSME&T department decided to set up dyeing facilities as well as designing centres at Phulia and Shantipur in Nadia district, he added.

The MSME&T department would also conduct export facilitation for handloom exporters in Nadia and Burdwan districts in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT), a statement, released by the state government following the workshop, stated.

Saturday's workshop was chaired by Chief Secretary HK Dwivedi and was also attended by principal secretary of the MSME & Textiles department and representatives from the industry and chambers and associations representing textile eco-system.

Assuring the industry representatives that the government will take all possible steps for the growth of this sector, the chief secretary suggested forming a task force and come out with a time-bound action plan for boosting and seeking more investment in the sector. PTI SCH RG RG
