New Delhi, Jun 24 (PTI) An alarm over the alleged kidnapping of a woman from northeast Delhi’s Maujpur area ended in relief after police found that she had voluntarily left in another vehicle following an argument with her male friend in the early hours of Tuesday, an official said.

An information about the suspected abduction was received at Bhajanpura Police Station around 2.50 am on Tuesday, he said.

The caller informed police that while he was dropping his female friend near Vijay Park in Maujpur, a group of four to five men in a car allegedly intercepted them, forcibly pulled the woman into their vehicle and sped away.

“Considering the seriousness of the matter, all nearby patrolling units were immediately alerted and a wireless message was flashed across the neighbouring districts,” a senior police officer said.

Multiple teams were quickly mobilised to track down the suspected vehicle using technical surveillance and human intelligence, he added.

However, a breakthrough came within a few hours when the woman was traced by one of the teams.

The woman informed police upon inquiry that she had a heated exchange with the caller during their ride and in distress she decided to leave with another group in a separate vehicle.

“She clarified that she was not kidnapped and had voluntarily accepted a lift. She later reached home safely,” the officer said.

The woman was later medically examined at JPC Hospital and her statement was recorded, police said.

The incident appeared to be a case of misunderstanding arising from a personal dispute, they said.

No case of kidnapping has been registered so far and further inquiries are underway, police said. PTI SSJ AS AS
