In the video, the complainant was heard saying “Madam (the doctor) came out of her house in the morning with a water pipe in her hand and asked to remove the stall. She poured water on me and in the shop, and kicked the decorative items, breaking them. I asked her to give us some time to shift the items to another place in a vehicle, but she did not listen. She then came with a stick and a mop.”

A senior officer claimed that, in contrast to the doctor’s home, a space beside the doctor’s home had been set up with earthen lamps and other festive-related stuff. The police also noted that many residents have been setting up similar roadside kiosks around Diwali for the past few years.

The police have confirmed that Dr Maurya’s statement has been recorded and a probe for the same is underway. But for now, Dr Maurya has been booked under IPC sections 427 (mischief causing damage) and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace).
