New Delhi, Jun 21 (PTI) Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Saturday said yoga has become a part of daily lives across the globe, as it energises the body and the mind to face newer challenges.
Birla, along with parliamentarians and officials of the Lok Sabha secretariat, performed yoga asanas in the Parliament House premises on the occasion of International Day of Yoga.
Lok Sabha members P P Chaudhary and former Uttarakhand chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat were among those present on the occasion.
"Yoga has become part of daily lives for many across the world. People are acknowledging its importance," the Speaker said.
He said the practise gives energy to face the challenges of the world and is necessary for overall development.
The theme of the International Day of Yoga was 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health'.
The United Nations proclaimed June 21 as the International Day of Yoga on December 11, 2014 by endorsing a resolution moved by India that was supported by a record 175 member states. PTI SKU OZ OZ
