Alappuzha(Kerala), Jul 11 (PTI) The protests seeking the resignation of Kerala Health Minister Veena George continued in the state with the Congress youth wing staging an agitation against her in this coastal district on Friday.

Youth Congress activists marched to the office of the District Medical Officer (DMO) demanding George's resignation over the recent death of a 52-year-old woman after a portion of the Kottayam Government Medical College building collapsed.

Shouting slogans against the minister, the protestors clashed with police, tried to climb over the barricades set up to stop them, faced several rounds of water splashing using water cannons, and sat down on the road when police tried to disperse them.

When police arrested and took away several of the Youth Congress leaders into the police vehicles, the protestors tried to block them, according to visuals on TV channels.

Nevertheless, police arrested and removed the protestors' leaders and other activists from the site.

Protests have been going on in the state against George since a government doctor revealed a lack of surgical equipment in his department at the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College.

Subsequently, when a 52-year-old Bindu died after a portion of Kottayam Government Medical College's toilet complex collapsed, the protests intensified. PTI HMP HMP ADB
