Youth killed, eight injured in Navi Mumbai hit-and-run case

Thane: A 23-year-old man died and eight others sustained serious injuries when a speeding car rammed into a group of bikers in Navi Mumbai, an official said on Friday.

The incident took place on the Hiranandani Bridge in the Kharghar locality early on Wednesday, he said.

A group of friends from Mumbai's Dharavi area were on their way to Lonavala on two-wheelers when they were knocked down by a speeding car.

One of the riders, identified as Manav Yellappa Kucchikorve (23), lost his life in the accident, while eight others from his group sustained grievous injuries. They were admitted to a hospital, the official said.

The car driver sped away after the accident, said the official from the Kharghar police station.

A case has been registered and efforts are being made to track down the car driver, he added.
