New Delhi: Sanket Mahadev Sargar won India's first medal at the Birmingham Commonwealth games 2022.

In Men's 55 Kg weightlifting event Sargar brings home Silver medal for Team India.

In an interesting, nail-biting but painful event Sargar who was leading from the front from start of the game injures himself while attempting 141kg on his second Clean and Jerk attempt. Sargar still attempted to go for his third attempt and fails again.

Sanket Sargar finishes second in men's 55kg weightlifting event to open India's medal count in Birmingham. He lifted a combined weight of 248kg (113 in Snatch and 135kg in C&J) and in the process injured himself. In the end denied gold by the Malaysian by just a kilo.

Sanket Mahadev Sargr hails from the weightlifting belt of Sangli in Maharashtra, born on October 16, 2000.

Last year Sargar won a gold medal at the Commonwealth Senior Championships 2021 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. After lifting 113kg in the men's 55kg snatch category he attained first place and won a gold medal, snatching a new national record.
