New Delhi: Indian wicketkeeper and batsman Rishabh Pant scored his seventh test century on day 2 of the first match against England here on Saturday.

Captain Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant steered India to 419 for 3 before lunch at Headingley in Leeds.

Gill and Pant stitched together a crucial 198-run stand for the fourth wicket, and still scoring, after India lost KL Rahul (42), debutant B Sai Sudharsan (0), and Yashasvi Jaiswal (101) on day 1.

Vice-captain Rishabh Pant is batting on 105, inching towards a century, while Gill is batting at 144.

For England, skipper Ben Stokes (2/49) took two wickets.
