Instagram rolls out Maps to help people discover popularly tagged locations & businesses

New Delhi: Instagram lovers can enjoy an all-new map experience on the Instagram app allowing people to discover popularly tagged locations around them.

When you open Instagram, naturally the app is in discovery mode and users come to the platform to discover new places and businesses around them. 

This new Instagram feature can boost the discovery of local small businesses on Instagram by allowing people to filter the locations by specific categories such as restaurants, cafes, and beauty salons. 

These dynamic, searchable maps on Instagram also help users to discover popular locations and see what’s happening nearby via tagged posts, stories, and guides shared by the Instagram community.

People can also find relevant locations on the map when searching certain hashtags. With maps, previous stories posted by users which include location stickers can also be viewed.

The new Map feature will help users to plan for later, as people can save locations to their collections and revisit them in the future. Users can also send and share places with their friends and families via direct messages.

Maps will also help users dig deeper into the location, as they can learn more about them using this feature. Users can also filter by location categories to narrow their search.

For businesses on Instagram, this discovery leads to more than just a connection point - it translates into business impact and sales. 

A Meta-commissioned online survey was conducted by GFK, the survey showed that 96% of people said that they discover brands and products online. Of these, 83%, said they typically discover them on a Meta platform. 

The feature was launched in Japan a year ago, and has been globally rolled out on July 20, 2022.
